LT. COL. WILLIAM ‘RUSTY’ WEEDMAN TO SPEAK AT WASHINGTON CO. VETERANS DAY PROGRAM
Lieutenant Colonel William “Rusty” Weedman will be the Washington County Veterans Association’s featured speaker at its annual Veterans Day program.

Weedman, who is currently assigned as the J4, Chief of Logistics for the Texas Military Department in Austin, will speak at Friday’s program at the American Legion Hall at Fireman’s Park in Brenham. The program starts at 11 a.m.
Weedman was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in August 1997 into the Ordnance Branch. He received his commission through the Army Reserved Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at East Carolina University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Education.
Weedman began his career in the Regular Army assigned to the 1st Corps Support Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and Assistant Battalion S3 – Operations Officer. In June 2002, Weedman joined the Texas National Guard where he has held command and staff positions from the company to divisional level with the majority serving with 36th Infantry Division (Arrowhead Division).
Weedman has deployed to Kosovo in 2005 for KFOR 7, Basrah, Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn in 2010, and Bagram, Afghanistan in 2014 supporting Special Operations Forces. His most recent deployment was in 2020 – 2021, where he deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield (OSS).
Weedman holds a master’s degree in Emergency Management from Trident University and master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. He is a graduate of the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, Quartermaster Advanced Course, and Command and General Staff College, U.S Army War College.
Weedman has numerous awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, and Army Service Ribbon. He has earned the Parachutist Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Rigger Badge, and foreign jump wings from Columbia and Brazil.
William is married to Melanie Velasquez Weedman and has two sons, Will (12) and Alec (10). His family currently resides in Buda.
Prior to the Veterans Day program, VFW Post 7104 will sponsor a Veterans Day breakfast at the Post home, located at 1200 East Tom Green Street. Doors will open at 6 a.m. and breakfast will start at 7 a.m. All veterans and their guests are invited.
A pork steak meal will be served after the program at the American Legion Hall. Advance tickets are no longer being sold, but a limited number will be available at the event.
