The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of a pair of items at its meeting Monday.

The commission voted in favor of an amendment to the city’s 2022 Thoroughfare Plan map to remove a planned collector street that would have gone through a property owner’s land along the east side of Old Masonic Road, within the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.

The collector street was proposed to connect Old Masonic Road and FM 2935.  However, David Klinger, who seeks to plat 10.6 acres of his land there to develop four residential lots, asked for the street to be removed from the map, citing concerns that the street could reduce the property values of his proposed platted lots.

City staff will research an alternative connection and present it at a later date.  The city council will consider the amendment at its meeting on January 19th.

Also on Monday, the commission recommended passage of a request from Chris and Deanna Marek for a specific use permit to allow an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in an R-2 Mixed Residential Use zoning district on a 0.386-acre lot at 604 South Baylor Street.  The applicants intend to use the single-story ADU to accommodate guests and as a short-term rental.

Staff had suggested the item be approved with the conditions that the tract of land be replatted from two lots into one residential lot, and that a proposed off-street parking area and driveway be made with either asphalt or pavement.

The ADU request will come before the city council on January 5th
