CONSTRUCTION BEGINS WEDNESDAY ON SOUTH CHAPPELL HILL STREET

A several-month-long road improvement project begins tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon on South Chappell Hill Street in Brenham, between Market Street and the Highway 290 feeder road.

In October, the Brenham City Council awarded a contract to Larry Young Paving to conduct major reconstruction work on South Chappell Hill Street.

The city says road work is expected to last until August 1st. Work will consist of removing the existing pavement and going back with an all-concrete street surface, as well as replacing some sections of the curb. Utility work has been completed.

In the first phase, which begins tomorrow, the contractor will close the section of South Chappell Hill Street from Market Street to Stringer Street, with a detour onto Becker Drive. This section will be closed during the duration of the project. All homes and businesses will still have access, except from South Chappell Hill Street in this section.

The second phase, from Stringer Street to Business 290, will have the contractor working one side of the road at a time. The road will be one-way, always westbound traffic from Business 290 to Stringer Street. Access to these areas will be strictly from the Highway 290 feeder. Once one side of the road is complete, the contractor will convert traffic and reconstruct the other side, still westbound.

The contractor will work with residents and businesses regarding access to their properties. At times when concrete is scheduled to be poured, delays will be expected but access will be allowed and worked around.

The city asks for patience with the construction process and for citizens to respect work zones and the safety of construction workers.
