WASHINGTON COUNTY 4-HERS PARTICIPATE AT HLS&R
The 2023 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo saw many 4-Hers from Washington County participate in a plethora of livestock shows and contests.
The Washington County 4-H Quiz Bowl team members participated in the contest that combined all ages into one quiz bowl and therefore both junior and senior age members competed together.
The White team finished 2nd Place Overall. The team consisted of Calvin Wunderlich, Hailey Rudloff, Hunter Janner and Ryan Elliott.
Several Washington County 4-Hers also earned top honors in the market steer and market barrow arenas.
Cooper Hodde showed the 1st Place ABC Steer in the Light Heavy Weight steer class and was named the ABC Breed Champion Market Steer.
Hodde was a contender in the Grand Champion Market Steer drive and got to show his steer in NRG Stadium during Rodeo Houston.
Other top finishers who later participated in the Sale of Champions were:
Harper Hodde - 1st place in class for her Hampshire Barrow
Hank Majewski – 3rd place in class for his Spot Barrow
Charli Majewski – 2nd place in class for her Cross Barrow
Participating in the Scramble Competition were Matthew Philips and Landon Flisowski.
Both Philips and Flisowski caught calves during the scramble to receive a scramble heifer or steer certificate for a project.
Flisowski also was the first to catch at his scramble, earning a belt buckle and the invitation to scramble at the final rodeo where he caught again to earn additional cash for his project.
