CHAPPELL HILL VFD TO HOST 19TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL FRIDAY, SATURDAY
The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s 19th Annual Festival is this weekend.
The public can head to the Chappell Hill Fire Station at 5295 FM 1155 tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday for a barbecue cook-off and rib shootout, live and silent auctions, and a pitch tournament.
Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department Vice President Marcy Kmiec says the department has a close-knit group of supporters who make their way out every year for the event.
Last year’s cook-off had an event record 70 teams taking part, and the department expects similar turnout this go-around.
The fundraiser opens with the pitch tournament tomorrow, with sign-up at 6 p.m. and play starting at 6:30 p.m. Entry is $20 per team.
On Saturday, first turn-in for the cook-off is at 10 a.m. Cooking and judging will continue until awards are announced at 4:30 p.m. A silent auction taking place throughout the day will also wrap up at 4:30 p.m., leading into a live auction at 5 p.m.
Drawing tickets are being sold for $20 each.
Kmiec says proceeds from the fundraiser go toward the department’s purchase and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, including a new truck on the way within the next 6 to 8 months.
