BURTON PANTHERS SWEEP DEWEYVILLE IN BI-DISTRICT SERIES

The Burton Panther Baseball Team swept Deweyville in two straight games to win their Bi-District series.

GAME 1: BURTON 11 DEWEYVILLE 0

The Panthers got on the board right away in the bottom of the first inning. Pierson Spies hit an RBI double, and came home on a sacrifice fly by Chet Fritsch to make it 1-0 Burton.

Colby Beck started the bottom of the second inning by drawing a leadoff walk. Then, he advanced to second on a passed ball and was balked to third. Carson Lauter singled him home to make it 2-0 Panthers. Lauter scored later that inning on a passed ball. Austin Simank walked, stoled second, and then scored on an RBI single to increase the Burton lead to 4-0.

In the third inning, Chet Fritsch led it off with a single, and later scored on an RBI single by Kaiden Kalkhake. Beck was hit by a pitch, and executed a double steal with Kalkhake going to third and him to second. Lauter then brought them both home with a two-run single. He later scored on an error to make it 8-0 Panthers.

Burton finished off the scoring in the fourth inning. Fritsch singled to left, and then took second on an error . Kalkhake walked. Fritsch advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a balk. Beck walked and then Lauter followed with a two run triple to make it 11-0.

Chet Fritsch got the win on the mound by pitching all five innings allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out six.

Burton now gets ready to take on Thorndale in the Area Round of the Playoffs. Thorndale swept a doubleheader over Sonora last (Thursday) night 12-0 and 9-0. Playoff details to be determined.
