BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO MEET TWICE THURSDAY

The Brenham City Council is preparing for two meetings on Thursday.

First will be a special meeting at 1 p.m., where the council will consider the second reading of an ordinance to nominate Blue Bell Creameries as a Texas Enterprise Zone project, following up on the first reading performed last week.  The nomination is so Blue Bell can pursue state reimbursement as it expands its Brenham plant.

Councilmembers will then act on an amendment to the state plan of operation between the city and state related to the Law Enforcement Support Office program.  The agreement authorizes the Brenham Police Department to use the Mine Resistant Ambush Protection (MRAP) armored vehicle currently in its possession.  The agreement is being updated to reflect Atwood Kenjura, not Milton Tate, as the authorized official for the document.

After the conclusion of the special meeting, the council will join Washington County Commissioners for a joint session at 1:30 p.m.  The meeting will include a presentation from the Washington County chief appraiser related to freeport and goods in transit exemptions.

Chief Appraiser Dyann White said she will present information on the two property tax exemptions, which are specific to manufacturers that store inventory that is later sold outside of Texas.  Her discussion will include details on how the exemptions work and what the potential value impact would be to the city if it elected to grant those exemptions.

The first meeting will take place inside the Brenham City Hall council chambers, while the second will be held in conference room 2A.
