The class graduated from its 7-week program last week and was presented program diplomas by Mayor Bert Miller at the city council’s meeting on May 22nd

Through NCU, residents were able to see first-hand how government operates and how decisions are made.  The program gave participants the opportunity to try their hand as government finance managers, firefighters, police officers, wastewater operators and other officials.

The 7-week, 8-session program offered interactive classes that were taught by leaders from city departments.  Students learned about setting budgets, toured city facilities, went behind the scenes with police officers, ran tests on wastewater and experienced the challenges encountered regularly by firefighters.  They also met with department directors to learn how various departments serve citizens.

City of Navasota Marketing and Communications Director Bobbie Lehrmann said NCU “provides participants with a unique understanding of how their City government works, helps educate residents, and continues the City’s commitment to transparency.”

The 2023 NCU Class comprised of the following participants: Louis Vidotto, Tonya Britton, Scotty McDonald, Sharon Hudson, Sabrina Killingsworth, Ernest McCraw, Monica Thompson, Jennifer Ramirez, David Ramirez, Alan Phillips, Megan Barcak, James Harris, Michele Steinhauser, Ed Murphy, Michael Medeiros, Greg Andersen and Irais Castellon.

The city says it looks forward to offering the program again in 2024.
