BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO REVIEW WATER CAPACITY STUDY, CONSIDER ABATEMENTS
The Brenham City Council will learn more about the city’s water capacity during its meeting today (Thursday).
A council work session will go over the results of a water capacity study. The information presented will be used by the council as it moves forward in identifying additional water sources and ways to improve the city’s water treatment capabilities.
A year ago, the council approved an agreement with Strand Associates for engineering services related to a water source evaluation and water treatment plant expansion plan. It also entered into an agreement with R.W. Harden & Associates for a groundwater availability study.
Prior to the work session, regular council business will include resolutions to adopt commercial tax phase-in agreements with Valmont Industries, Inc. and North Park Development, LLC. During the council’s last meeting on June 15th, it approved commercial tax phase-in reinvestment zones for the two companies, a step needed to proceed in the abatement process.
Valmont is looking to expand its production capacity at its manufacturing facility at 2551 Valmont Drive. North Park Development, also known as PlanNorth Architectural Co., plans to move its office from downtown Brenham to 1809 North Park Street, a location that is intended to also provide office space for lease.
Another item to consider will be the appointment of an 11-member Capital Improvements Advisory Committee, which will review the outcome of an impact fee study and give a recommendation on if the city should adopt impact fees for water, sanitary sewer and streets. The proposed composition of the committee is all seven members of the Planning and Zoning Commission, a member of the city council, two real estate representatives, and a representative of the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.
In other business, the council will:
- Potentially authorize the submittal of an advance funding agreement with TxDOT pertaining to a bridge located at Hog Branch Creek and Pecan Street.
- Act on a lease agreement between the city and Central Washington County Water Supply Corporation related to the city’s water system auto-dialer relay station.
- Appoint a City of Brenham representative to serve on the governing board of the Brazos Valley Wide Area Communications System.
- Act on a bid for the purchase of polyaluminum chloride for the city’s water utility system.
- Consider a second amendment to the professional services agreement between the city and Hodde & Hodde Land Surveying, Inc. related to the city’s 6” gas main loop NE project.
- Meet in executive session to consult with the city attorney regarding Aviators Plus, LLC v. City of Brenham; Cause No. 37896; 21st Judicial District Court, Washington County.
The council will meet at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
