A Brenham woman will be taking on a big responsibility after being sworn into office at the BPO Elks National Convention.
Sheri McCord, who was representing the Brenham Elks Lodge, was installed as the East District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler.
She will serve a one-year term.
The Elks National Convention was held earlier this month in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The BPO Elks are a charitable organization that each year donates more than $350 million nationwide in cash, goods, and services to the needy, plus they give scholarships to students, help people with disabilities, active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their families, and other charitable organizations.
The Elks National Foundation hands out $4.5 million in college scholarships to students across the country annually.
The Elks provides direct service to veterans at more than 350 VA Medical Centers, state veterans homes, and clinics.
They also provide beds, supplies, and emergency assistance to veterans experiencing homelessness.
