BLAIRE SMITH RETURNS TO LEAD HER HOME TOWN TEAM

Former Burton Lady Panther Blaire Smith recently returned home to take the head volleyball coaching job at her old high school.

She took over for Katie Kieke, who took a job as a counselor in the Giddings ISD.

As a player, Smith was a district MVP in her senior year (2016-2017) with the Lady Panthers. Last (Monday) night, she and several of her players appeared on the Brenham Sportsline.

Smith picked up her first win in her first match as the new Burton Head Coach when they defeated Lexington 3-2 back on August 8.

She talked about what it was like to get that first win.

The Lady Panthers then went to the Round Rock West Wood "Warrior Showcase" Tournament, where they played against mostly 5A and 6A teams.

After dropping their first five matches, Burton came back to win four in a row and capture the tournament's Copper Bracket Championship.

Last week, Burton competed in the Schulenburg Tournament. After dropping their first two, they went on to win five matches in a row, before losing in a close match to long time rival, Round Top-Carmine on the final day.

Tonight (Tuesday), Burton is scheduled to face Schulenburg at 6pm. Smith gave a scouting report.

The Lady Panthers are currently 11-9 on the season.
