DEBBIE SCHROEDER NAMED BURTON BRIDGE MINISTRY’S NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Burton Bridge Ministry has named a new executive director.

Debbie Schroeder
(Burton Bridge Ministry)

Debbie Schroeder’s professional career includes longtime positions with Brenham Memorial Chapel and the Washington County Fair, and her past volunteer experience includes serving with the 4-H Club, FFA Booster Club and teaching Sunday School classes.

Schroeder was born and raised in Washington County and currently lives in the Gay Hill community with her husband, Troy.

Barbara Donnelly, president of the ministry’s board of directors, said Schroeder’s references speak very highly of her organizational skills, devotion to seeing a job through and her work with volunteers as part of the Washington County Fair.  She said Schroeder will greatly strengthen and improve the ministry’s management staff so they can continue to serve their neighbors.

Schroeder said she is excited about working with her fellow volunteers and continuing to help the community.

The ministry said its previous executive director, Taylor Whittaker, resigned in June prior to a planned month-long trip to Australia with her family, and the hope is for her to continue volunteering in whatever capacity she is able to.

Susie Tommaney, who held the role before Whittaker, continues to provide administrative support with bookkeeping, communications and in the food pantry.

The Burton Bridge Ministry’s active programs include a fellowship and hot meal program for senior citizens, a summer camp for children, a food pantry that serves western Washington County, a thrift store and a furniture ministry.  The nonprofit’s mission is to build a bridge between racial, cultural, educational, and economic divisions within the community.
