The 155th Washington County Fair is underway through next Saturday, September 23rd at the Washington County Expo, with livestock judging, games, rodeo, live music and everything in between.

Today (Friday), set-up is open for tomorrow’s (Saturday) barbecue cook-off, and there is a pitch tournament at 7 p.m.  Tomorrow will feature the trail ride at 8:30 a.m., the parade through downtown Brenham at 10:30 a.m. and the opening ceremonies at 6:30 p.m., including the announcement of the fair queen.

Fair Manager Dean Fuchs, speaking on Tuesday’s Community Corner on KWHI, said the fair has added new livestock pens and a new sound system, two things that he believes will make a big difference for participants and attendees.

Tomorrow’s schedule also has bean bag and washer tournaments, a car show, a pet show, the ranch rodeo and music from the Risky Liver Band at 8 p.m.  Sunday will have Cowboy Church at 8:30 a.m., followed by the bucket calf show at 1 p.m. and ag mechanics show at 4 p.m.  The carnival opens on Tuesday.

The market livestock judging shows will be held on Wednesday.  That day will have the Little and Junior Mister and Miss contests.  Following that will be the commercial shows on Thursday and Friday, culminating with the junior livestock auction on Friday at 1 p.m.  The country creations youth auction will be on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the commercial steer sale at 1 p.m. and the colt and commercial heifer sale at 2 p.m.

Fuchs said the two days of sales signify a fruitful end for all of the hard work of livestock exhibitors, and the fair is always appreciative of the community’s continued generosity toward the county’s youth.

Elsewhere around the fair, there will be rodeo events, a petting zoo, antique tractor displays, robocars and a strolling piano.

The music lineup next week will start off on Wednesday with Los Cazadores del Cerro and Los Igualados, then continue with Trae Pierce and the T-Stones on Thursday, William Clark Green and Shane Smith and the Saints on Friday, and concluding on Saturday with William Beckmann and Gary Levox of Rascal Flatts fame.

Tomorrow at noon is the deadline to purchase season passes for the fair from any of the four fair queen candidates: MaKayla Hueske, Della Jasinski, Seta Naylor and Katie Seeker.

KWHI and KTEX-106 will report live from various activities at the fair, including tomorrow’s parade and the queen’s crowning.  KWHI and KTEX-106 will also have the Wagon Wheel of Prizes at the fair from Wednesday to Saturday, where every spin of the wheel benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.

In addition, KWHI will have Washington County Fair reports during the morning, noon and evening newscasts, offering updates three times daily on livestock judging results and other events.
