CUBS DEFEAT MONTGOMERY 40-14 FOR FIRST DISTRICT WIN
The Brenham Cub Football Team got back on the winning track in a big way last (Friday) night with a 40-14 win over the Montgomery Bears.
Jakoby Dixon started off the night in the first quarter with a 33-yard touchdown run. Rylee Davis added the extra point to make it 7-0 Cubs at the 8:45 mark.
Brenham would then find the end zone three times in the second quarter. Dixon would score on touchdown runs of 39 yards and 61 yards that would increase it to a 20-0 lead with 7:48 left in the half.
Jordan Harvey later found Jose Castillo on a 24-yard touchdown pass with 27.8 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Montgomery blocked the extra point, but the Cubs were still up 26-0 going into the locker room.
Harvey started the second half by finding Braylon Ragston on a 24-yard touchdown pass just 50 seconds into the third quarter, which increased the Brenham lead to 33-0.
Montgomery finally got on the board on a 4-yard touchdown run by Damian Taylor with 8:07 left in the third quarter to cut the Cub lead to 33-7.
Dixon would get into the end zone one more time on a four-yard run with 4:46 left in the third quarter to make it 40-7.
The Bears would get the only score of the fourth quarter when Zach Hayden picked off a Jordan Harvey pass and returned it for a touchdown to trim the lead to 40-14.
With the win, the Cubs improve to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district play. Next up, Brenham goes on the road to face Lamar Consolidated at 7:30pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 7pm.
