EARLY VOTING STARTS FOR CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT ELECTION, BELLVILLE ISD BOND

Today (Monday) marks the beginning of early voting for the November 7th Constitutional Amendment Election.

There will be 14 constitutional amendments on the statewide ballot.  Some of the proposals cover rights for farming and ranching, property tax exemptions for child-care facilities, the prohibition of “wealth taxes” unless authorized by voters, increasing homestead exemptions from $40,000 to $100,000, providing cost-of-living adjustments for retired teachers, and creating or altering funds dedicated for higher education research, water and energy infrastructure, broadband, and state parks.

In Washington County, early voting will take place at the courthouse annex at 100 South Park Street in downtown Brenham.  Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. October 30 – November 1, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. November 2 – 3.

Also starting today, voters in Bellville ISD will be able to participate in a $52.5 million school bond election.  For Proposition A, the school district is proposing the construction of a new junior high school and transitioning grades 3-5 from O’Bryant Primary and O’Bryant Intermediate to the existing junior high campus.  The bond also calls for campus facility improvements to address safety, parking and traffic, HVAC, capacity, and age and condition.

Proposition B asks voters to ratify a tax rate of $0.9712 per $100 valuation.  The school district says the rate, which would be lower than the 2022 tax rate of $1.1352 per $100, is intended to help provide teacher salary increases.
