LT. COL. CHRISTOPHER HATLEY TO BE GUEST SPEAKER FOR WASHINGTON CO. VETERANS DAY PROGRAM

  

A retired lieutenant colonel with over 26 years of service in the United States Army will be the featured speaker for next week’s Veterans Day program in Washington County.

Christopher Hatley will speak during the Washington County Veterans Association’s (WCVA) annual program, to be held on Saturday, November 11th at Brenham American Legion Post 48, located at 903 North Park Street, starting at 11 a.m.

Hatley, a seventh-generation Texan born in Dallas, enlisted in the Army in 1975 and completed basic combat training at Fort Dix, New Jersey.  He gained acceptance to the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and subsequently earned an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.  He graduated from the Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and received a commission in field artillery. 

Hatley’s career included postings to duty stations both within the continental United States and overseas.  His assignments were either with troops in combat units, as a trainer of officers and enlisted personnel, or general staff positions.  His last assignment was Inspector General for the Joint Readiness Training Center (Airborne) and Fort Polk, Louisiana. 

His military schools include Field Artillery Cannon Battery Officer Basic Course, Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course, Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  He has received awards and decorations such as the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with 6 oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (with 5 oak leaf clusters), Air Force Superior Unit Award, and Parachutist Badge.

Hatley moved to Brenham in January of this year, and soon plans to move into a new house on seven acres in Zionsville.  He currently attends Calvary Baptist Church and is active in the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Veterans Day activities will begin with a breakfast hosted by James F. Dillion VFW Post 7104, located at 1200 East Tom Green Street.  Doors open at 6 a.m. and breakfast will start at 7 a.m.  All veterans and their guests are invited.

After the Veterans Day program, a barbecue chicken/pork sausage meal will be served at the Brenham American Legion, dine-in and drive-thru.  Meal tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Dan’s Meat Market, Felder’s Buy & Bye, K&M Grocery, Quick-Mart and Robert’s Service Station.  They are also available from local veterans.
