CITY OF BRENHAM TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON IMPACT FEES DEC. 7

Brenham residents are invited on Thursday, December 7th to a public hearing regarding impact fees.

The Brenham City Council will host the hearing starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.  The hearing is to consider the land use assumptions and water, wastewater, and roadway capital improvement plans under which an impact fee may be imposed on developers.

Impact fees are charges or assessments a city levies on developers to generate revenue to fund or recoup costs of capital improvements or facility expansions associated with new development.

If the fees are approved by the city, they can be used to assist with the capital improvement or facility expansion costs associated with roads within city limits and water/wastewater infrastructure inside the city and its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).

Should the impact fees go into effect, all new developments within the city and the ETJ would be assessed an impact fee per service unit, or platted lot.  The city says the benefits of the fees include lessening the impact of costs for new capital improvements on existing rates and taxpayers, as well as helping to pay for a percentage of projects directly related to necessary improvements due to growth, offsetting debt or higher rates.

Information to be presented at the December 7th meeting can be seen at www.cityofbrenham.org.
