BELLVILLE TO FACE GILMER FOR THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP THIS (FRIDAY) AFTERNOON

(Bellville ISD)

It all comes down to one game. The Bellville Brahmas left out yesterday (Thursday) morning for their date with destiny against the Gilmer Buckeyes in the Class 4A Division II State Championship Game.

Kickoff is scheduled for this (Friday) afternoon at 3pm at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

This season, the Brahmas have set a new school record for most wins in a season with 15. They are also just the third team in school history to play for the state title. The last team was the 1977 squad (46 years ago).

It all started with a 68-20 over La Grange back in August, and the Brahmas have run the tables since then.

After winning the District 10-4A Division II Championship, Bellville has picked up playoff wins over West Orange-Stark, Madisonville, Silsbee, Jasper, and Wimberley.

The offense is led by the three headed rushing attack. D.D. Murray has carried the ball 179 times for 1,991 yards and 36 touchdowns. Sam Hranicky has 195 carries for 1,848 yards and 23 touchdowns. Corrian Hood has 171 carries for 1,556 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The high-powered offense combined with a defense that has only given up an average of 7.3 points per game has led Bellville to a 15-0 record.

Gilmer is the runner-up out of District 7-4A Division II. After losing their first two games of the season, the Buckeyes have won 12 out of their last 13, including their last nine in a row, to find themselves also playing for the state championship.

Gilmer was 7-3 during the regular season. They have racked up playoff wins over Center, Sunnyvale, Aubrey, Carthage, and Glen Rose.

Gilmer's offense is led by Junior QB Cadon Tennison, who has completed 161 of 277 passes for 2,474 yards, and 25 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

Their leading rusher is Senior RB Will Henderson. He has carried the ball 264 times for 2,510 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Their leading receiver is Ta'Erik Tate, who has 56 catches for 1,074 yards and 13 touchdowns.
