FORMER BLINN ATHLETIC DIRECTOR DON WILHELM PASSES AWAY

Former Blinn College Athletic Director Don Wilhelm has passed away at the age of 84. 

Wilhelm was a native of Great Bend, Kansas. In addition to coaching, he served his country in the United States Marines. 

Wilhelm came to Blinn in 1994, and served as athletic director until his retirement in 2004. 

During his time at Blinn, he helped organize the Buccaneer Alumni Letterman Association in 1998, he started the Athletic Honor Roll, and helped to create the Atkinson Cup, which goes each year to the student athlete with the highest grade point average. 

Wilhelm was inducted into the NJCAA Football Hall of Honor in 2003.  In 2004, Blinn created the Don Wilhelm Award that goes each year to a Buccaneer Women’s Basketball Player.  In 2011, Wilhelm was inducted into the Blinn College Hall of Honor.

He was also an active member of First United Methodist Church in Brenham, where he served in many capacities. 

Wilhelm also volunteered his time with many local organizations including the Rotary Club, the Blue Blazers, the Boys Scouts, and the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County.

He is survived by his wife Mary, their three daughters and their spouses, along with several grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 

Services in Wilhelm’s memory will be scheduled for a later date.  Memorials may be made to Blinn College or to the charity of your choice.
