ONE PERSON ARRESTED FOLLOWING HOSTAGE SITUATION IN GRIMES COUNTY

Two children are safe and one person has been arrested in connection with a hostage situation that occurred on Saturday in Grimes County.
According to Sheriff Don Sowell, deputies were dispatched at 11:25am to the 1500 Block of Stone Street in Bedias for a welfare concern.
Deputies attempted to make contact with Mark Anthony Regino, who had barricaded himself in a house with two children that he refused to release despite being requested to by family members and law enforcement.
Regino also had a firearm in his possession.
The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, the DPS Hostage Negotiation Team, and the Texas Rangers all assisted in getting the children safely removed from the house.
Regino was taken into custody at 3:10pm, and transported to the Grimes County Jail.
He was charged with two counts of Unlawful Restraint of a Child Under the Age of 17 Exposing Them to Substantial Risk of Serious Bodily Injury, which is a third-degree felony.
Sheriff Sowell said that investigation into the case is ongoing.
