SALES TAX REBATES IN FEBRUARY UP FOR BRENHAM & BURTON, DOWN FOR WASHINGTON CO.

  

Sales and tax rebates for the month of February were up for the cities of Brenham and Burton, but down for Washington County.

The county’s rebate this month was $429,160, a 3.13 percent drop from last February when it received $443,054.  Through the first two months of the year, the county’s collections are down by 1.35 percent compared to a year ago, at $814,629 versus $825,839.

The City of Brenham reported a net payment of $948,408 in February, up 11.18 percent from when the city took in $853,030 in February 2023.  So far this year, the city has received $1,794,237, an increase of 11.53 percent from this time last year, when the city had total rebates of $1,608,616.

The City of Burton’s rebate was up 23.73 percent from year to year, as it collected $14,383 this February and $11,624 last February.  Receipts to date are $24,385, up 15.59 percent from $21,095 taken in through this point in 2023. 

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported $1.3 billion in local sales tax allocations in February, up 1.6 percent from last February and up 2.4 percent for the year so far.
