NAVASOTA ISD CALLS BOND ELECTION FOR MAY

Navasota ISD trustees have called for a bond election this spring.

The board voted unanimously on Monday in favor of placing two propositions on the May 4th ballot totaling $74 million.

Proposition A, worth $71 million, would fund the construction of a fourth elementary school, as well as the purchase of new buses and land for future schools, both elementary and middle-level.  It also would support cafeteria upgrades, improvements to the dance facility at Navasota High School, and expansion of the gym area at High Point Elementary School.  In addition, the measure would account for several safety enhancements and various other facility updates.

Proposition B would move approximately $3 million from the existing Maintenance and Operations side of the budget to the Interest and Sinking side over the course of the next six years.

The bond committee’s presentation at Monday’s meeting said both propositions come without a tax increase and do not rely on increased property values or enrollment.
