BURTON LADY PANTHERS DEFEAT SOMERVILLE 13-3

The Burton Lady Panthers picked up a 13-3 district win over the Somerville Lady Yeguas on Thursday night.

Burton got the scoring started off right away with three-run first inning. Reagan Roemer drew a leadoff walk. Two batters later, Amaya Williams and Bailey Glaesmann drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Melanie Wood was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home Roemer with the first run of the game to make it 1-0. Jennifer Lopez was hit by a pitch as well to score Williams. Glaesmann, then scored later in the inning on a passed ball to make it 3-0 Lady Panthers.

Burton tacked on another run in the top of the second. Roemer drew a walk, and later came around to score on another passed ball. That increased the Lady Panthers lead to 4-0.

In the top of the fifth inning, Wood drew a walk, Katy Whitfield singled, and Kelsi Hohlt drew a walk to load the bases. Kara Ladriault was brought in to run for Whitfield. Abby Dowling singled home both Wood and Landriault to make it 6-0. Roemer walked to re-load the bases. Kalli Pohl drew a bases loaded walk allowing Hohlt to score and make it 7-0. Amaya Williams struck out, but reached base on a passed ball that occurred on the third strike. Dowling also came in with another Lady Panther run to make it 8-0.

Burton added another run in the sixth inning. Wood walked, and then scored on an RBI single by Hohlt that put the Lady Panthers up 9-0.

Roemer led off the top of the seventh inning with a bunt single. Pohl followed with single, and then Williams walked to load the bases. Glaesmann drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Roemer. Wood drew another bases loaded walk to score Pohl. Whitfield singled home Williams. Haelah Herrin pinch-hit for Hohlt, and singled in Glaemann to increase the Burton lead to 13-0.

The Lady Panthers ended up drawing 13 walks in the game.

Somerville finally got on the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but by then, the game was out of reach.

Bailey Glaesmann went the distance on a one-hitter, and struck out 14 to get the win.

Burton is back in action tomorrow (Tuesday) night as they host North Zulch at 6pm.
