CUBS ON A THREE GAME WINNING STREAK AFTER WIN OVER MAGNOLIA WEST
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team is on a three game winning streak after defeating the defending state champion Magnolia West Mustangs last (Wednesday) night at Fireman's Park.
The Cubs got on the scoreboard right away with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tanner Reese reached on a one-out single. Brody Hemann came in to courtesy run for Reese. Drake Bentke and Luke Hardy followed with back to back singles to load the bases.
Landry Mendoza reached on a infield hit that scored Hemann to put the Cubs up 1-0. Grady Gee then hit a sacrifice fly that scored Bentke, and gave Brenham a 2-0 lead.
The Cubs added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Bentke reached on an error. That was followed by back-to-back walks to Hardy and Mendoza to load the bases. Austin Maurer came in to courtesy run for Hardy. Gee drove in his second run of the night with an RBI single that scored Bentke. Barrett Kohring hit a sacrifice fly that scored Maurer and made it 4-0 Cubs.
The Mustangs cut the lead in half with a run in the fifth inning, and another run in the sixth inning to the lead to 4-2.
Brenham would come back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Owen Finke led it off with a double. Brady Rau followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Finke to third. Reese singled home Finke to add an insurance run to give the Cubs a 5-2 lead.
Hemann courtesy ran once again for Reese, and Bentke drew a walk. Gee followed with a two-run single that scored Hemann and Bentke to increase the Brenham advantage to 7-2.
Hardy went the distance on the hill to get the win.
The series now moves to Magnolia West High School on Friday night at 7pm.
