ELECTION DAY FOR BURTON SCHOOL BOARD RACE

Today (Saturday) is Election Day for Burton ISD voters, as they head to the polls to vote on their choice of school board representatives.

Voting will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Burton Community Center, the lone polling location for this election.

Three candidates are running for the two seats of Brian Hinze and David Warner Sr.  Hinze is seeking re-election, while Ande “Arch” Bostain and Mike Clyde are also vying for a position on the board.  Warner did not file for another term.

Hinze has been a school board trustee since he was first elected in May 2021.  Bostain has previous experience on the board from his election in May 2015 to May 2018, then being reappointed in December 2018 and serving until November 2020.  Clyde is a retired school administrator who was formerly a principal at Burton High School and was involved in committee work during the 2021 school bond election.

A total of 88 people voted during the seven days of early voting offered at the Washington County Courthouse Annex in Brenham.  According to Washington County Elections Administrator Carol Jackson, there are 2,712 registered voters in Burton ISD.

The Burton School Board election is the only contested one on today’s ballot in Washington County.  All City of Burton councilmembers who were up for election are running unopposed, and the City of Brenham, Brenham ISD and Blinn College elections will not be held until May 2025.

However, cities and school districts in neighboring counties have several options for voters to consider, from school bonds in Navasota and Hempstead, to mayoral races in Hempstead and Caldwell, and many city council and school trustee races in between.  A list of some of the elections of note can be found here.
