SIX CALLS THURSDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department had a busy Thursday, responding to six calls.

At 11 a.m., the department was called out to Melcher Hall, 601 Prairie Lea Street on the Blinn College campus, for an alarm sounding.  Units arrived to find nothing showing from the exterior of the building, and upon entering, they found the alarm was reset.  They walked through the building and found no signs of smoke or fire, so they returned to service.

Just before 1:15 p.m., firefighters received a report of a transportation incident in the 2900 block of Highway 290 East.  There, they discovered that a truck had lost a wheel.  No further action was needed from the department.

Around 7:30 p.m., units were dispatched to a home in the 1800 block of Basin Trail for an alarm sounding.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the home.  The department contacted the homeowner, who advised their smoke detectors were not going off.

Just past 8 p.m., BFD members went out to Brookshire Brothers, 303 North Austin Parkway, for an alarm call.  After seeing nothing from the outside of the building, they spoke with an employee who told the department that the control panel was beeping, not a detector.  Units advised to have an alarm company come check the system.

At 8:45 p.m., the department responded to a trailer in the 2000 block of FM 389 for a report of two children locked inside a vehicle with the A/C on.  The children were found unharmed and sleeping.  Firefighters used an unlock tool to gain access into the vehicle.  EMS checked the children out, and they were released to their parents.

Around 9:15 p.m., units were sent out to a home in the 1800 block of Basin Trail for an alarm.  After observing nothing from the outside, they spoke with the homeowner who said their smoke detectors were all going off.  The department found a bad smoke detector and advised the homeowner to replace it.
