FUNDRAISER FOR VICTIMS OF DPS OFFICE INCIDENT BRINGS IN NEARLY $19,000
The Washington County community came together in a big way to support those who were impacted by the attack on the Brenham DPS Office on April 12th.
Brenham GameChangers, the Batter’s Box and the Bake Shop at All Things Acres organized a drive-thru fundraiser on May 15th, selling dinners of lasagna, sides and cutie pies at the Fireman’s Training Center. The event raised nearly $19,000 on 1,200 meal tickets sold and through cash donations.
Tara Royer Steele, owner of the Bake Shop at All Things Acres, said this was truly a community-wide effort, with people of all ages uniting to support the victims of the incident and their families.
The event was initially planned to be held at the Batter’s Box, but due to the overwhelmingly positive reception, it was shifted to the Fireman’s Training Center to accommodate larger crowds.
Among those helping at the event were members of the Brenham Fire and Police Departments, who aided with packaging meals and with traffic flow. Baseball and softball players from the Batter’s Box also helped to serve meals.
Royer Steele said organizers are collecting information to determine how to best distribute the funds to those in need.
