VIKKI CURRY HIRED AS NEW BURTON ISD SUPT.

The Burton School Board moved unanimously Tuesday night to approve the hiring of Vikki Curry as Burton ISD’s next superintendent.

Vikki Curry (center) was hired by the Burton School
Board on Tuesday as Burton ISD's new
superintendent.

Curry, who has 30 years of experience in education, was most recently in Galveston ISD, where she served as the assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.  Prior to that, she was an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and a principal in Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD.  In addition, she served as an assistant principal in Spring ISD and a teacher in Galveston ISD.

Curry calls herself “a country girl at heart” and says she was drawn to Burton in part for its smaller community feel.  She says seeing the bond construction project through to its completion will be among her main objectives, as she strives to “make good out of a bad situation.”

Curry, who was heavily involved in a bond project during her time with Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD, says she intends to reach out to the campus teams and community members to hear their perspective and get an idea for what they consider to be the biggest tasks at hand for the district.

Rob Barnwell, who has served as Burton’s interim superintendent since March, will stay on with the district on a temporary basis as the director of school operations.  He says his remaining time in the district will be spent assisting Curry with getting up to speed on the construction project and school operations.  He admits that it will be hard to step away when the time comes, as he has greatly enjoyed his time in Burton ISD.

Curry was chosen out of 38 candidates for the superintendent position.  Her contract is for three years, with an annual salary of $130,000.

    1. Good thing this is Washington County and he’s in Burton, because if he was anywhere else, people would mistake that [shirt] for a pro-Palestinian statement.

      1. Oh my lord! You people
Have too much time on your hands. Sheesh! Can we just say welcome to the new superintendent and move on?!?!
