The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Chappell Hill, 7675 FM 2447.
Members of the fire departments will share information about what ESDs are and how they are used to support fire protection services. They will also discuss what an ESD would look like for the Chappell Hill and Meyersville VFDs and how that would impact the communities they serve.
The first information on the ESD was presented to county commissioners at a meeting in December 2023. The fire departments said at the time that they intended to receive funding through an ad valorem tax of no more than 10 cents per $100 valuation on residents living within the boundaries of the departments’ service territories. That would not include the City of Brenham’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Tomorrow’s meeting will have a presentation lasting roughly 30 minutes, followed by a question-and-answer session. There will also be a petition to place the ESD on the ballot for anyone who wants to support it.
Event organizers ask that only those who live within the proposed district in the east end of the county attend the meeting, as it is intended for those who will be directly affected.
Anyone with questions or who would like to know if they live inside the proposed district can contact the ESD committee at wacounty.esdone.questions@gmail.com.
