BACK TO SCHOOL FOR BRENHAM ISD STUDENTS
Today (Tuesday) marks the beginning of another school year for Brenham ISD.
Superintendent Clay Gillentine says the school district is going into this year with a very positive attitude.
Despite the overarching uncertainty surrounding public education, with many school districts in Texas facing financial struggles, Gillentine feels confident about the direction Brenham ISD is headed. He says the district’s reorganization of staff, from principals to directors to the superintendent’s cabinet, has put “the right people in the right places.”
Gillentine says Brenham ISD is a reflection of the larger community that it serves, and one avenue that the district plans to put out more information on soon is an ambassador program, described by Gillentine as similar to the Washington County Chamber of Commerce’s “Leadership Washington County”. The goal is to partner with leaders in the community to give a “look behind the curtain” of the various departments and functions that go into operating a school district.
Gillentine says Brenham ISD’s message this year is, “One team, one goal”, acknowledging that while teams are filled with people from different backgrounds and with different beliefs, their purpose is all the same.
Many area school districts begin classes this week. Navasota and Fayetteville ISDs started on Monday, while Brenham is joined today by Bellville, Caldwell and Bryan ISDs.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) will be the first day for school districts in Burton, Somerville, Round Top-Carmine, Giddings, Sealy, Waller, Columbus, College Station, Lexington and Anderson-Shiro. Thursday is the first day back for students in Snook and La Grange ISDs. Hempstead ISD students still have until August 26th before they start class.
