Blinn College District students, faculty, and staff have been given the chance to learn about community service and develop character through their partnership with Faith Mission in Brenham.

For the last 39 years, Faith Mission has served as an ecumenical, Christian based non-profit organization created as the central clearinghouse for assistance to the homeless and working poor in Washington County.

During the 2023-2024 school year, Blinn College District students, student-athletes, coaches, professors, administration, and support staff amassed over 1,500 volunteer hours.

The bulk of the hours served came from the B-FAMOUS Blinn Football and Athletes Mentoring for Ultimate Success program that was established in 2022.

The Football Team led the way with 786 hours, followed by the Women’s Soccer Team with 420 hours, and the Women’s Basketball Team with 240 hours serving with the Faith Mission SMART-CARE Kids program as tutors and 1-on-1 mentors.

The next largest block of volunteering was with the Faith Mission Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign at Walmart and Hobby Lobby.

Reverend Randy Wells, who is the Executive Director of Faith Mission and a member of the Blinn College Board of Trustees, said, “Many of the freshman said they have never participated in giving back to their communities, and it challenges them to grow by becoming a role model for young kids.”

Other activities that they participated in include Pumpkins and Pizza with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Thanksgiving Day Meal Service, Disaster Relief, and Higgins Thrift Operations.
