UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DOWN IN JULY

  

After two straight months of climbing jobless rates, Washington County and surrounding counties reported a drop in unemployment for July.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in July, down from 4.4 percent in June. 

The county’s number of unemployed residents fell from 728 in June to 693 last month.

Meanwhile, employment grew from 15,980 to 16,096 over the course of June to July.  The total civilian labor force also increased during that time, from 16,708 to 16,789. 

In July 2023, the county logged a jobless rate of 4.4 percent, with 703 people out of work. 

The state’s adjusted unemployment rate rose from 4 percent in June to 4.1 percent last month.

Around the region, unemployment rates for the month of July include:

  • Austin County – 3.9 percent, down from 4 percent in June.
  • Brazos County – 3.5 percent, down from 3.6 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3.9 percent, down from 4.1 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.6 percent, down from 3.7 percent.
  • Grimes County – 4.7 percent, down from 4.9 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.5 percent, down from 3.6 percent.
  • Waller County – 5.5 percent, down from 5.6 percent.
