BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON TAX RATE, DISCUSS WATER WELL PROJECT
The Burton City Council will hold a public hearing before voting tomorrow (Tuesday) on adopting the city’s new property tax rate.
The city is proposing a no-new-revenue rate of $0.297267 per $100 valuation, consisting of $0.045349 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.251918 for interest and sinking (I&S). The rate is above the current adopted rate of $0.289790 per $100.
The council will also discuss the city’s project to build a new water well and potentially choose a site for the location of the well. There are also agenda items listed to authorize moving forward with the purchase or lease of property and procure a financial advisor to assist with finding additional funding.
In other business, councilmembers will act on purchasing a new security camera system for Burton City Hall, hiring a contractor to perform brush and tree clearing to provide access to manhole covers along the west side of Indian Creek, purchasing an on-site generator for the wastewater treatment plant, and hiring a consulting service to log and legally dispose of police department items in storage.
Additionally, the council will consider a resolution authorizing the submission of a Texas Community Development Block Grant for the 2025-26 program and select Langford Community Management Services as the services provider to complete the funding application. It will also read a proclamation affirming October 1st as National Night Out.
The council will meet tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
