The Austin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ashley Hoffman Slater today (Thursday) after she was indicted by an Austin County Grand Jury on Wednesday for Theft of Property $2,500 - $30,000.

The sheriff’s office says it investigated claims of someone stealing money from concession stand receipts from the 2023-24 Little League baseball season.  In coordination with the Austin County District Attorney’s Office, investigators discovered through bank records and Little League records that over $10,000 was stolen from the league.

Slater was arrested by members of the Austin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division in relation to the case and was booked in at the Austin County Jail without incident.

Slater resigned from her seat on the Bellville City Council in August.  She was originally elected in May 2020, winning a contested race for re-election in May 2022 and running unopposed this past May.  City Administrator Shawn Jackson said the mayor and council are considering making a temporary appointment in October or November.
