PLANTERSVILLE MAN ARRESTED AFTER A HIGH-SPEED CHASE
A Plantersville man was arrested on Tuesday after leading law enforcement agencies on a high-speed, multi-county chase.
According to Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell, a Deputy made a traffic stop on a silver Toyota RAV-4 for having expired registration around 3:30pm at the intersection of County Road 304 and State Highway 249 in Plantersville.
After refusing to exit the vehicle, the driver, who was later identified as James Leo Harvey, sped off, and re-entered Highway 249 increasing to speeds of over 120 mph.
The chase went into Harris County, where Harvey struck two vehicles, one of which was occupied. Multiple attempts were made to stop Harvey’s vehicle, but he refused.
Two DPS troopers attempted to conduct a pit maneuver on the RAV-4, and finally stopped it at the corner of Louetta Road and Telge Road.
Then, Harvey got out of the passenger’s side door, and attempted to evade authorities on foot. He was tazed, and finally taken into custody. Harvey continued to resist as he was loaded into the patrol car.
Harvey was booked into the Grimes County Jail for Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle, which is a third-degree felony. Sheriff Sowell said that more charges are pending.
The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Todd Mission Police Department, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units, the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, and the Texas DPS for their assistance with the case.
