ONE CONTESTED RACE FOR BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD WITH NEW FILING; THIRD BLINN BOARD INCUMBENT FILES
A fourth candidate has filed for the Brenham School Board, meaning there will now be a contested race in the May election.
Justin Colley has applied to run for Position 6 on the board, a seat also being sought by James “Mike” Garner. The position is currently held by Natalie Lange, who has not filed for re-election.
Colley works as a regional sales manager at Brannon Industrial Group. He was just recognized on Thursday as the Washington County Chamber of Commerce’s Board Member of the Year, and he is also a Chamber Blue Blazer and Leadership Washington County graduate.
For the other two school board seats up for election this spring, Jared Krenek has declared his intent to run for re-election to Position 7, while David Jantzi has filed for Position 5, held by Tommie Sullivan. Sullivan has not announced whether he will run for another term.
The Blinn Board of Trustees also has a new candidate filing, as Jim Kolkhorst has filed to continue serving in the At-Large Position 2 seat he has held since 2019.
All three returning Blinn board members up for election have now announced their plans to run again, as Richard O’Malley and Dennis Crowson previously declared their intent.
The last day to file for a spot on the May 3rd ballot is Friday, February 14th.
Thank you to the three non-incumbents for throwing your hats in the Brenham ISD ring. Change is greatly needed—listen to the teachers. And by “change,” that is to mean the undoing of a great number of bad decisions of the last five or six years.
Please don’t make this political. These decisions are life long changes to Brenham. I would rather it be a person that could be “a voice of reason.” Not who wants to see their name in the paper. There is someone out there who can fill these shoes and do it well. After moving here I have definitely noticed that certain family’s run this town and churches to. Very disappointing. But that’s small town politics.
Nothing in terms of Right and Left was implied. Sadly, in small towns somebody always knows somebody, names mean more than they should, and everything’s political whether you want it to be or not. The question is whether voters will prioritize substance instead who they know, who they went to school or played ball with, or what church they all belong to.
I agree…get in schools and listen to the teachers! They are not paid close to other districts around. Trying to replace district pay raises for teachers with the TIA will not work. The central office has such fat pockets and way too many useless positions, Brenham is losing great teachers because frankly, in Brenham ISD teachers don’t matter. Reduce positions in central office, cut the pay of the superintendent because districts this size make at least $75,000 less (that’s a teacher and paraprofessional salary), and increase the pay of your front line workers—teachers!
Hey how about starting with the coaches salary. This is for Brenham and Burton. Your pricy pickup trucks have nice paint jobs to that’s unnecessary spending. We need a “Doge” department in the school system to to save them. And yes , everyone wants their kids in private school. Isn’t it funny you never hear parents complaining about bulling at private schools
