Members of the Brenham Fire Department responded to a pair of calls on Friday.

The first call came in just before 3pm on Highway 290 East at Jozwiak Road. Firefighters from Brenham and Chappell Hill arrived on location to find a small building on fire.

Firefighters extinguished the fire with tank water from their trucks. Brenham units returned to service, while Chappell Hill units remained on scene.

According to the Chappell Hill Department, they found a lithium-ion battery had caught fire underneath the structure, and started to burn the floor and contents inside. Firefighters moved the batteries away from the structure and cooled them to a safe range.

The second call came in just after 7:30pm. Brenham and Meyersville Firefighters were dispatched to the 1300 Block of Allen Road for a report of a grass fire.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found out that it was a control burn. Members from both departments extinguished the small fires and returned to service.
