CUBETTES END DISTRICT WITH 15-3 LOSS TO LAKE CREEK
The Lake Creek Lady Lions showed why they are one of the top teams in the country with a 15-3 victory over the Brenham Cubettes last (Thursday) night.
Lake Creek scored once in the first inning and five runs in the second inning to take an early 6-0 lead.
Brenham (15-11, 6-6) got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Avery Maurer drew a two-out walk. Sarah Mabie followed with a single, and an error by the leftfielder that allowed Maurer to score all the way from first and cut the lead Lions' lead to 6-1.
Lake Creek added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to increase their advantage to 9-1.
The Cubettes would get another run in the top of the fourth. Kinley Antkowiak led off the inning with a single. Kylie Baker moved her over with a sacrifice bunt. Antkowiak later scored on a fielder's choice to cut the lead to 9-2.
The Lady Lions would then put the exclamation point on the game with a six-run inning in the bottom of the fourth to make it 15-2.
Brenham managed to put up one more run in the top of the fifth inning. Maurer reached on a two-out single. Mabie came up next, and slugged an RBI double to trim the lead to 15-3.
That would be as close as they would come. The game was called due to the mercy rule.
Laityn Davis took the loss on the hill. Next up, the Cubettes wait to find out the playoff information for their Bi-District series.
