WASHINGTON COUNTY SUFFER NARROW DEFEAT TO GRIMES COUNTY IN MINOR BASEBALL

On Friday, the Washington County Minor Baseball All-Stars squared off against Grimes County in the Little League All-Star tournament at Elizabeth Anderson Park. Despite a strong defensive showing, Washington County came up just short in a tightly contested 4-2 loss.

Grimes County struck early, scoring two runs in the top of the first and keeping Washington County off the board through the opening innings. Washington County responded in the third, tying the game 2-2 after capitalizing on an error and a sacrifice fly by Cam Wheaton that scored Blayne Bailey and Riley Bowen.

A momentum-shifting diving catch by Grimes County in the fourth turned the tide, and they regained the lead with a two-run fifth inning. Washington County held them scoreless the rest of the way, including a clean three-up, three-down sixth, but couldn’t close the gap at the plate.

With the loss, Washington County moves to the elimination bracket and will return to action Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Opponent to be announced.
