SALES TAX REBATES IN SEPTEMBER UP SLIGHTLY FOR WASHINGTON CO., DOWN FOR BRENHAM & BURTON

  

September was a mixed month for sales and tax distributions in Washington County. 

The county’s rebate in September was $406,222, up 0.73 percent from the $403,269 it collected in September of last year.  So far in 2025, the county has received $3,668,969, a 5.26 percent increase from the $3,485,298 taken in through this time a year ago.

The City of Brenham’s September rebate came out to $858,666, down 5.78 percent from last September, when its rebate was $911,436.  The city is still up 3.58 percent on the year for collections, at $7,862,861 compared to $7,590,652 at this point last year.

The City of Burton reported a rebate of $8,967 this month, a decrease of 5.78 percent from the $9,518 received in September 2024.  The city’s receipts through this September sit at $125,664, up 1.82 percent from the $123,407 brought in through the same timeframe last year. 

Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for the month of September, up 5.3 percent from September of last year and up 4.8 percent for the year to date.

Allocations in September are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.
