‘TRULY A CALLING’: WASHINGTON CO. E911 RECOGNIZED DURING PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK

Tuesday following the reading of a proclamation
declaring April 12-18 as National Public Safety
Telecommunicators Week.
County commissioners read a proclamation saluting emergency dispatchers for their work to provide critical information to first responders, assisting during criminal incidents, fire responses and medical emergencies. The proclamation also acknowledged their ability to show kindness and sympathy while remaining composed in demanding situations.
Interim E911 Director Raleigh Wellmann said telecommunicators are the first voice people hear when they call for help, and they are often involved in some of the most stressful and uncertain moments in those callers’ lives. She said many dispatchers do not know how many lives they have impacted, but they make a difference during every single call.
Wellmann also thanked the numerous businesses and organizations who have contributed to recognizing the department’s members by giving food, snacks, drinks, accessories, prize/drawing items and monetary donations.
Several of those contributions were approved by the court at Tuesday’s meeting:
- $100 from the Rocky Creek Volunteer Fire Department;
- Insulated mugs from Jud’s Food Stores Inc.;
- A round of golf for four, including two carts, from the Brenham Country Club;
- Entrée vouchers from Chick-Fil-A Brenham;
- “911 Dispatcher” foldable camping chairs from the Brazos Valley Council of Governments;
- Backpacks containing snacks and assorted appreciation items from Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union.
