BRENHAM CUB BAND PERFORMS AT STATE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 14 YEARS

The Brenham Cub Marching Band performed at the UIL State Competition for the first time in 14 years on Monday.

The competition, which featured bands from all over the State, was held at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. The preliminary rounds were on Monday, while the Championship is being held today (Tuesday).

The Cub Band advanced to State by finishing in fifth place at the Area Marching Band Festival earlier this month in Channelview.

Prior to leaving, Band Director Eric Rettig created a bucket with names of former Brenham High School Band Students that were part of the band during that 14-year period that were really good, but never got the chance to go to State.

According to a Facebook post, Retting said it was their way of honoring those that came before them and the legacy they left behind.

While, they did advance to State, unfortunately, the Cub Band was not among the bands that went past the preliminary round.

The Cub Band faced tough competition from larger 5A schools, and still put on a good performance according to those in attendance.

A large contingent from Brenham made the trip to show their support.

Retting and the band were grateful for the turnout, and thanked the parents for everything during the course of the fall season that they did to make it a success.
