GRASS FIRE, VEHICLE FIRE AMONG 11 WEEKEND CALLS FOR BRENHAM FD

The Brenham Fire Department was called out 11 times over the weekend.

Around 11:45 a.m. Saturday, firefighters were dispatched to the 4100 block of Randle Hill Road for a report of a grass fire.  Members of the Brenham Fire Department and Salem Volunteer Fire Department found about 2 acres burning and worked to stop forward progress, while the Latium and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Departments helped to extinguish hot spots.

Approaching 4:30 p.m., units went out to a transportation incident in the 300 block of West Main Street.  They found a two-vehicle accident with no injuries.  Both vehicles moved to a parking lot, and the department returned to service.

Just shy of 8 p.m., members of the Brenham and Salem Fire Departments responded to a report of a grass fire at FM 332 and FM 3456.  However, they could not find any signs of smoke or fire.

A few minutes before 12:45 a.m. Sunday, BFD members were called out for an alarm at Republic Services, 1709 Highway 36 North.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building, and a walkthrough found no signs of smoke or fire, so the alarm was reset.  Another alarm call came in shortly after 1:45 a.m., and the alarm was once again reset after there were no issues discovered.

At 1:15 a.m., units were dispatched for a gas smell inside a home in the 600 block of Janet Street.  They found no readings on the gas detector inside or outside the home.  The City of Brenham Gas Department arrived to check for any leaks and run tests, while the fire department cleared the call.

Around 2:30 a.m., members of the Brenham Fire Department and Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded to a transportation incident with entrapment in the 11700 block of Highway 290 East.  A single vehicle was found on its side, but Chappell Hill cancelled Brenham units, as they were able to get the patient out.

Close to 2:45 a.m., firefighters went out to the BVR Collection Station, 2009 Old Chappell Hill Road, for a smoke investigation.  A check of the area found nothing out of the ordinary.

Around 4:30 a.m., units went out to an alarm at a home in the 1000 block of Fannin Street.  They found nothing showing from the exterior of the building and, after entering, found a bad smoke detector.  The home was a new build, with no one living there.

Nearing 10:45 a.m., a vehicle fire was called in from the 1100 block of Highway 290 East.  There, they found a truck with fire showing from the bed area, and they used tank water to extinguish the fire.

Just past 11:15 a.m., BFD personnel were dispatched to a transportation incident at Highway 290 East and Highway 36 South.  They found a two-vehicle accident with no injuries.  The department cleaned the roadway, including a small fluid spill, before returning to service.
