PANTHER BASEBALL WRAPS UP WEIMAR TOURNAMENT WITH ANOTHER WIN

The Burton Panther Baseball Team wrapped up the Weimar Tournament with a 7-3 win over the Tidehaven Tigers on Friday.

Tidehaven opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning to make it 1-0 Tigers.

Burton got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Braydon Martin reached on a two-out single. Rueben Rodriguez followed with an RBI triple that scored Martin to tie the game at 1-1.

Tidehaven scored another run in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead.

It would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth inning. Coy Gurka and Tyler Witt hit back-to-back singles to put two runners on base. Martin singled, and then on an error by the leftfielder, Gurka and Witt came around to score the tying and go-ahead runs respectively. Carter Prigge came in to run for Martin, and he scored on an RBI single by Ryder Biggs. That put the Panthers up 4-2.

Burton tacked on three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gurka reached on a fielder's choice, and later scored on an error by the pitcher.

Witt was hit by a pitch while Logun Tosta and Martin both walked to load the bases. Rodriguez singled home Witt and Tosta, which increased the Panther lead to 7-2.

The Tigers added one more run in the top of the seventh to cut the Burton lead to 7-3.

Eli Jaeger went the distance to get the win for the Panthers.

The Panthers (10-2) will now get ready for the start of district play this coming week. They are scheduled to host, Iola on Tuesday at 1pm, and then travel to Iola on Wednesday at 1pm.
