IOLA DEFEATS BURTON 3-1 TO GAIN A SPLIT IN THEIR DISTRICT SERIES
After run-ruling Iola in their District 17-5A opener on Tuesday, the Burton Panther Baseball Team found themselves on the short end of the stick in last (Thursday) night's game against the Bulldogs.
Iola defeated Burton 3-1 behind a dominating pitching performance from Brody Vaughn. The Bulldog ace went all seven innings allowing only one run, on one hit, one walk, and striking out nine.
The Panthers got their lone run in the first inning. Tyler Witt drew a leadoff walk, and Logun Tosta bunted him over to third. Witt later scored on an RBI double by Braydon Martin. That gave Burton a 1-0 lead.
Iola tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second inning. The Bulldogs would then score two go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fourth that turned out to be the game winners.
Eli Jaeger pitched well enough to win, but instead was tagged with the loss. He went the first four innings for Burton allowing three runs, only two were earned. He also walked four and strikeout out three.
Easton Witt went the last two innings allowing only one walk, and striking out two.
The Panthers are scheduled to face Richards next week. They will be in Richards on Tuesday, March 17, and then Richards is coming to Burton on Friday, March 20.
