CUB BASEBALL RUN-RULES A&M CONSOLIDATED TO STAY UNBEATEN IN DISTRICT
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team remains unbeaten in District 17-5A after last (Thursday) night's 11-0 victory over the A&M Consolidated Tigers.
The Cubs jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning. Dalton Hart led it off with a single, and Owen Finke followed with a double. Drake Bentke followed with a two-run double to put Brenham up 2-0. Two batters later, Luke Hardy ripped a two-run homer to put Brenham ahead 4-0.
The early runs continued in the second inning. Landry Mendoza got it started with a double. Brooks Roznovsky singled him home to make it a 5-0 Brenham lead. Finke and Bentke singled to load the bases. Hardy drew a bases loaded walk that scored Roznovsky to make it 6-0.
The Cubs kept it going with two more runs in the third inning. Mendoza reached on his second double of the night. Hart drew a walk to put two men on for Finke. Mendoza took third on a wild pitch, and then he scored on an infield single by Finke. Meanwhile, Hart stole second, went to third on Finke's single, and later scored on another wild pitch to extend the Brenham advantage to 8-0.
In the fourth inning, Ethan Aschenbeck led it off with a single. He went on to steal second, and went to third on a passed ball. Brody Tucker was hit by a pitch. Brayden Steele singled home Aschenbeck. Bleu Cienega came in to run for Tucker, and he came around to score later in the inning on a wild pitch to give the Cubs a 10-0 lead.
Brenham would tack on one more insurance run in the top of the fifth inning. Hart singled, and Bentke brought him home with an RBI double.
Steele got the win on the mound after pitching four strong innings, and Dawson Keim closed it out in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory. The two pitchers combined to allow only four base-runners, and two were erased on double plays.
With the win, the Cubs are now 17-8-1 overall and 8-0 in district. Next up, they will travel to Montgomery to take on the Bears. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
