Just after 2:15 p.m., units went out to a vehicle fire in the 1300 block of Prairie Lea Street.  They found an 18-wheeler fully involved.

BFD members extinguished the fire and stood by until the 18-wheeler was removed from the roadway.  A hazmat assessment group was called due to a diesel fuel spill.

Traffic was backed up at Prairie Lea Street and Highway 290 while first responders worked the scene.  No injuries were reported.

The fire department’s other responses on Friday included one around 9:45 a.m. for a gas odor at Smile Keepers, 224 Highway 290 West.  Firefighters waited for the City of Brenham Gas Department to make location and turned the scene over to them.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., units were dispatched to a report of a downed powerline in the 1700 block of South Austin Street.  They made location to find it was a TV cable that had fallen.

A few minutes past 2:30 p.m., BFD personnel were called out to a crash at South Day Street and Highway 290 West.  There, they located and provided traffic control for a two-vehicle accident with minor damage and no injuries.

Close to 4:30 p.m., the department responded to a fire alarm at High Hope Care Center of Brenham, 401 East Blue Bell Road.  The alarm was determined to be false.
