SALES TAX REBATES UP ACROSS WASHINGTON CO. FOR APRIL
April’s sales and tax distribution report shows growth for all Washington County entities.
The county’s rebate for April came out to $372,654, an increase of 10.37 percent from the $337,613 it received in April of last year. So far in 2026, the county has collected $1,653,102, up 4.17 percent from this time a year ago, when it had received $1,586,893.
The City of Brenham took in $776,914 this month, which is up 12.81 percent from last April’s rebate of $688,653. The city’s receipts are still down 3.58 percent for 2026 so far, with the year-to-date tally being $3,408,665 this year in comparison to $3,535,565 a year ago.
The City of Burton saw an increase of 26.84 percent with its rebate, bringing in $11,585 this April after receiving $9,133 last April. To date, the city has taken in $51,935, up 19.34 percent from the $43,516 it had received through April 2025.
Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations in April, up 10.5 percent from last April and up 4.7 percent for the year to this point.
April’s allocations are based on sales made in February by businesses that report tax monthly.
