CUBETTE SOFTBALL FALLS TO A&M CONSOLIDATED AT HOME

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team suffered their second straight loss to A&M Consolidated 10-4 last (Tuesday) night at Alumni Field. While, the loss does not completely eliminate Brenham from playoff contention, the remaining path is a difficult one.

The Cubettes would have to defeat Lake Creek, who is 11-0 in district, and Montgomery would have to lose to Rudder, who is 0-11 in district.

A&M Consolidated jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring four runs in the first inning. Makenna Cline and Brooklyn Cline had back-to-back RBI singles follow by a two-run single by Mackenzie Burdett.

Brenham was able to come back with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead in half. Kylie Baker hit a two-run single to score Laityn Davis and Harper Castillo to make it a 4-2 Lady Tiger lead.

Then, in the bottom of the third inning, Castillo made it a one-run game in the bottom of the third with a solo home run that she crushed over the left field fence. That made it a 4-3 game.

A&M Consolidated bounced back with five runs in the top of the fourth inning that really put the game away. Emma Ford had a two-run single, Peyton Valentine had an RBI double, and then Makenna Cline unloaded a two-run homer. Those runs put the Lady Tigers up 9-3.

Each team added a run in the seventh inning to finish at a 10-4 final, and a victory for Consol.

Last (Tuesday) night was also Youth Night. Local youth wearing their jerseys got into the game for free, got a free hot dog at the concession stand, stood on the field with the team for the National Anthem, and ran the bases after the game.

Next up, the Cubettes will host Lake Creek in the final game of the season on Friday. The start time has been pushed back to 6pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 5:35pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.

That evening will also be Senior Night. The Cubettes will be honoring their outgoing Senior Class, which includes Kylie Baker, McKenzie Tiemann, and Kate Martin.
