The City of Burton has a new city secretary.

acting city secretary, Dale Schwartz, after being
sworn in at Tuesday's Burton City Council meeting
to serve as the new city secretary.

After an executive session on Tuesday, the city council voted unanimously to hire Amanda Klehm for the position.

Klehm fills the position formerly held by Angela Harrington, who tendered her resignation in February in order to spend more time with family.  Former councilmember Dale Schwartz has been serving as acting city secretary.

Klehm, who is the co-owner of Sew Stitches Boutique in Brenham, has past municipal experience as deputy city secretary for the City of Brenham and was recently a candidate for Washington County Precinct 2 Commissioner.  She said she appreciated her role with the City of Brenham and is looking forward to this new position with the City of Burton.

Klehm lives in Chappell Hill with her husband Seth, who is serving as Washington County Precinct 2 Constable.  She told KWHI that the secretary position will be part-time and that she will still be involved at Sew Stitches Boutique.

In the only other action item on the agenda, councilmembers approved the final amended 2025-26 general and utility fund budgets, reflecting actual income and expenses for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year.
